The Ocean University of Sri Lanka (NIFNE) has taken steps to equip 3500 multi-day fishing vessels with solar panels to meet emergencies caused by breakdown in radio network & electric power supply in mid sea.

The project to be implemented by NPG Pushpika, Lecturer, Ocean University under the guidance of Prof. Ranjith Senarathne, Chairman, Ocean University is aimed to minimize ship accidents in mid-sea. The cells and solar batteries used have an expected life span of over 10years.
