Rescues Stranded Fishermen | Home

 

On the 23rd of June 2011, officers of the Ocean University of Sri Lanka, based in Tangalle rescued five fisherman stranded at sea for 30 days in the breached multi-day ship "Angel".


The rescued fishermen were identified as G.D.H.I Jeewantha, W.A.A. Udakara,G.H.K. Priyankara, S.G. Senarathne and M.Y. Taranga, all from the village of Mirissa.


They were located around 300 nautical miles from Kirinda, when they were rescued. Prof. Ranjith Senarathne, Chairman, Ocean University coordinated the overall operation.
